SciFi and Fantasy Art: Horus

This piece is one from a set of three originals, commissioned by Mrs Carole Jones for her daughter Rachel's birthday. The other two in the set are 'Anubis' and 'Hathor', Egyptian deities, and were painted in the same style, consistent throughout each piece. There’s an emphasis on the enlarged hands, in keeping with a balance between the more modern 3D and the traditional 2D quality of ancient Egyptian art (always presented in ‘profile’). I hid a piece of real papyrus somewhere in each picture. With the three pieces together, the characters face one-another, giving the impression that they are arguing over something trivial. I love the technique you have taken to the subject - something very different and original that gives an old topic a new lift. I especially love the sketchy, blotchy backgrounds - they really give the sense of some long forgotten fresco or papyrus. Leona Preston replies: "Thank you.
