SciFi and Fantasy Art: Caeruleus

Well, here’s the painting I was on about a few weeks back. I’ve got it in my head that I should do a few pieces to sell over the summer holidays. I was going to sell the original, but after all the time it took to get it finished, I thought the better of it. I did however, make a large A3 print of it and it’s now up for sale in Fferdi’s Café, mounted in an attractive metallic silver frame. This picture was a nightmare to paint, and I’m seriously considering never letting my imagination run wild again! For once I had thought, ‘ok… I’ll just go with the flow’; the down side to this being that you don’t know how it will all turn out… you have no plan in mind. I tried a whole new method of putting medium to paper for this picture, and it’s made the colour relationships work better visually and the whole picture is much lighter. Lately, my main concern has been the apparent darkness seen in my artworks. I’ve been working on getting the composition lighter and away from ‘muddy’ tones. At one point I nearly ripped it in my temper… the black ink flecks were landing in areas that I had covered up using tracing paper, seeping underneath and ruining the detail. Do you see that big grey blob in between the whisker and the left wing? Well, that was me trying to cover up a gigantic blotch of black ink. I continuously had to touch it up… at least it’s done now. The dragon didn’t come out how I imagined and the Celtic knots… *mumble*… At least anyone looking at the print will feel calm and relaxed thanks to the watery blue colours… apart from me that is. Whenever I look at it, I see red! Grrr!

I rlly like the colors and i like the ink splotches on the wings it looks awosme but the one hand loosk funny like its missing toes teh front paw i eman cause the other one has uum 4 toes i think and it looks like the other one has only too ..
